The Bosmer of Valenwood are no different. Since time immemorial, all lands settled by the Aldmeri in the Merethic Era have, of course, recognised the High King of Alinor as liege lord.

This is (as is to be expected) a miscomprehension of staggering ignorance. It has been argued by the perfidious historians of the Empire that the Altmer were invaders, with no right to interfere in the politics of a sovereign kingdom. The Thalmor, as this government was known comprised in equal part of the chieftains of the Bosmeri tribes and representative diplomats from the Altmeri city states. At Anaxemes’ request, the Altmer agreed to assist in forming a provisional government. Whilst the main objective of the expedition had been achieved, Valenwood was still in a state of turmoil. The combined Aldmeri army drove the Colovians and the traitors back in a series of triumphant victories and established Anaxemes on the throne. A relief force immediately set sail from Alinor, landing at the coast near Southpoint to an enthusiastic welcome. The Altmer response was swift and decisive, aided in no small part by the wisdom and courage of my respected patron’s illustrious ancestor. The rightful claimant, Camoran Anaxemes, finally sought assistance from Summurset Isle. This repellent betrayal of their brethren did not go unnoticed.

It was not long before a party of Bosmer petitioned their longstanding enemies in Colovia for assistance, promising in return large territorial concessions. Whilst factional strife was not wholly unusual in the fraught political atmosphere of the kingdom, the larger scale of this conflict demanded greater attention. The breaking point was reached in 2E830, following the death of the reigning Bosmeri king, when various pretenders from the Camoran dynasty began to contest the throne of Valenwood. The Altmer looked on with horror as the kingdom tore itself apart. The region was opened up to incursions from the Khajiit, the barbarian Colovians and most worryingly, the Maomer of Pyandonea who began to establish coastal outposts, to the consternation of Summurset Isle and the apparent total unconcern of the Bosmer.

Turbulence and disorder was rife in Valenwood, following the collapse of the distasteful centralised authority of the Cyrodilic Empire in 2E430. The Aldmeri Dominion of the late Second Era was formed as a response to the objectionable encroaches of men into the traditional purity of the elven lands.
